The Pride of Paoli will be heading to Franklin High School for the 2010 ISSMA Semi-State Marching Band Competition this Saturday, October 23rd. Come watch them play! Semi-State is still fairly new, but here is what Mr. Laughlin has to say about it:

Semi-State is now the most competitive of all marching band shows.  Even more so than State!  At the Invitationals, most bands are working on their shows and performing for the audiences, not too concerned about placings, captions, etc. (like we did at Floyd & Salem).  At District, there may be 8-12 bands in a class, but they do not compete against each other, only for the rating that will advance them to the Regional.  At State Finals, except for 2 or 3 bands gunning for the top spot, all 10 bands are happy to be there and celebrate the experience.  At Semi-State, however, all 20 bands want to earn a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium! All the bands are preparing so that their shows can be at 100%.  What makes this show so competitive?  Only the top 10 scores make it out.  The other bands are done for the year and must take a field trip if they want to see the state finals.
